Hiking Bukit Wawasan Puchong

One of the activities in the Booster Fitness program is Hiking and one of the favourite hiking spots is Bukit Wawasan Puchong. We chose this Bukit Wawasan base on two factors:

1) The route is not too technical and you can bring your kids along.
2) The elevation is 233 meter. Not so high for the first-time hiker.

Why Hiking?

People often asked “Why did you hiking?”
There are many benefit of hiking and in summary, it benefit your heart, mind and body!
3 in 1..Amazing right?

So let me tell you about these three reasons.

One (1) – Heart

Hiking is a powerful cardio workout that can: Lower your risk of heart disease. Improve your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. So how does it work?

During hiking, your heart is pumping blood through your body and is sending oxygen to your muscles. Your heart is a very strong muscle and needs to be put to work. The heart is a muscle that must be strengthened through regular activity to remain healthy and hiking can help!

A strong heart pumps more blood with fewer beats and less effort, putting less strain on the blood vessels.

Two (2) – Mind

“Research shows that hiking has a positive impact on combating the symptoms of stress and anxiety,” says Gregory A. Miller, PhD, president of the American Hiking Society.

During exercise, hiking, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain and trigger a positive feeling in the body.

It also reduces stress and wards off anxiety and feelings of depression.

For those who don’t suffer from depression, hiking still offers mental benefits. “Being out in nature, away from the business of our daily lives and technology, can allow people to connect with themselves and nature in a way that brings about peace and a sense of well-being,” Leigh Jackson-Magennis, REI Outdoor Programs and Outreach New England Market Manager, tells The Huffington Post.

Three (3) – Body

Hiking builds multiple components of fitness simultaneously, predominantly cardiovascular health and strength – especially of the lower body and it engage multiple muscle groups in tandem, all while burning a serious number of calories and increasing your aerobic threshold. Here are the muscles used most strenuously:
• Glutes
• Quadriceps
• Hamstrings
• Calves
• Abdominals
• Lower Back
• Obliques
• Ankle and Knee Complex
• Inside and Outside Thigh

Due to multiple muscle group work in tandem, hiking will burn a tremendous amount of calories! All of this happens without you realize it because you will be busy enjoying nature.
